Boggart Brewery Rum Porter

Well I did sample this ale nearly close to a month ago, so apologies to you avid readers for the delay. Boggart Breweries Rum Porter was sampled at what can only be described as a shoddy cocktail bar in Manchester, Room. If you like old man pubs and real ale in pint pots I suggest you strongly avoid. To be fair I did know this before entering however the venue was select by others we were meeting for Friday afternoon drinks.
At first glance it appeared there was no ale on offer at all, therefore George and I opted for Guinness, a sensible idea I thought until George returned from the bar with a 33cl bottle and half a pint glass. The only positive to take was he paid £7.50 for these 2 drinks and not I.
Anyhow a quick scour for a menu and we found that Room was actually serving real ale in bottles. Happy days. My choice was the Boggart Brewery Rum Porter 4.7%. Forgive me I forget the other choice available, although from the same brewer. The Boggart Brewery was established in late 2000 by Mark Dade an experienced craft brewer and is based in Newton Heath, North Manchester. Pleasing to see another local brewery represented.

After my earlier whining about the lack of ale in room the rum porter was a pleasant surprise. It was full of hops therefore right up my street, had a spicy taste throughout and you could definitely taste the hint of rum. I am going to plagiarise my pal Jerome’s description of he Rum Porter as “a stout with whisky in” pretty much spot on.
Needless to say the Rum Porter was enjoyable, I will not returning to Room, Manchester in a hurry.
